Actually, the RV generators do not "rev up" when loaded. They run at 1800 or 3600 RPM constant speed, irregardless of load. You will hear the generator load up as it takes more fuel to maintain speed with more load.

When using the service manual above you have to really pay attention to the details because it covers several versions of the BGM & NHM series generators. Not everything for your model generator is clearly covered.
The wiring diagram for your 6.5NHM Spec H is on page B-8.
VR2 takes the place of CR-10 in the Control descriptions (page 7-8)
You have a Electronic Governor.
Because the engine continues to run after you release the Start switch, the B1/B2 leads are outputing voltage.
All that means, from a troubleshooting perspective, you need to just concentrate on the Generator section of the manual (description and trouble shooting). I suspect the VR1 voltage rgulator is defective. Either that or you have an open either in the stator, open in a lead to/from the stator/VR1, or an open in the voltage sense leads to TB1.

wirelessenab - Thanks for the links. I have 22 ohms from ring to ring on the commutator and low voltage on the gen circuit breakers.
Got back from Camping World yesterday. They told me to go to a Cummins dealer, sounds like the gen might have to be pulled to get at the voltage regulator. I am sure its the VR, hoping the manuals will tell me how to change it myself.
Crossing the Mackinac bridge the winds billowed my awning out, tore off the front support, broke the awning spring in two. Coach is scratched, no awning and wind noise coming thru door. Going downstate one of the sidewalls on the car trailer bulged so we bought 4 new tires. I think it was the trip from hell.

Well if it is the TRIP from Hell, then you should go to Pinckney, MI (Just south of I-96 and few miles west of Novi as I recall)
From the western most traffic light (There are only two) go south to Patterson Lake road and turn right.... (Patterson Lake is the road to Hell, mi that is)

GA Traveler there are some Onans that will not run if they are not producing 120VAC. If the start switch is held down they will run until you let go of the switch. Normally changing the voltage regulator does the trick. If not, the brushes or windings could be bad. Of course nothing is ever normal in the RV world.
