Generator question

We have an Onan gas generator and the last oil change was in August. We only put about 3 hours on it before putting the coach up for the winter in Oct. I have been exercising the generator and now have less than 20 hours since the last oil change. Total hours are 98 and since we bought the coach in March 08 the oil has been changed 3 times including the last change in August.

We are leaving for an extended trip in July and wonder if we should go ahead and change the oil while the coach is in for service this week or wait until we come back in October when we put the coach up for the winter.

Thanks,
RJ

It's doubtful the oil is bad. I would wait until after the trip.

Wait - it will be fine. I generally change mine annually, regardless of hours (though I run a lot more than you do).

I agree w/the others. It is best to store with fresh oil.

Agreed. Service your generator annually just before you put it to bed for the winter.
