I have a 1995 F53 Coachman 35 footer w/7000 Onan "Marquis" generator. The generator has 150 hours (Rarely Boondock) and I run it at least once every month for 15-20 minutes. I took it to an RV mechanic because it was intermitantly failing to transfer power after being cranked, then it wouldn't transfer power at all. They said they started it 10 times and it transfered power 6 out of the 10 times and they didn't know what was wrong. Now it won't transfer power at all. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong or do I just need to take it to a generator repair shop???

Not sure what the problem may be, but I would opt for the Gen repair shop. From my own experience almost toasting my rig, messing with electrical that I shouldn't have, it is best to go to the experts.

Sounds like the problem is with the solenoid in the transfer switch. Your generator may be ok if it is putting out 120 volts at 60 cycles when the transfer switch does engage.
Good luck and be careful working on the transfer switch if the lid is off - it is hot on BOTH the Shore power and the generator power.
