The check of the Time Delay CB will only take 5 minutes. Pop off the plastic cover and it is right in front of you, at least on my coach. I would always go there first if you are having problems with power from the GenSet ONLY. Did the GenSet provide and Failure Codes when the Voltage Regulator was the culprit?

It probably doesn't apply in your case, but I had the identical problem. It turned out that someone had put a coarse thread #10 screw in a hole that was tapped to #10 fine thread. The screw in question fastened one of the generator output wires to the copper generator power bus. The connection appeared OK but was actually loose enough to cause an intermittent loss of power to the transfer switch.

Here's a temp fix that was made for two days until a transfer switch could be located while dry camping. The blue wires are the added jumper temp fix.

DRIFTER, Great idea for a temporary fix, I need to remember that. Obviously the Caution is to make sure you remove the jumpers before you hook back up to Shore Power.

What I do when I loose power is search for it.. Normally I use a test lamp for searching cause.. Well, it's easier than a volt meter (LIGHT/DARK is all I need to know, don't even need to look at the lamp as I can see reflected light)
Power flows as follows
Generator, via on-board circuit breakers, to Automatic Transfer switch, to {Option} Master breaker box, to bus bar, to branch breakers, to loads.
Now, if every thing works on SHORE POWER.. We can ignore everythign after the word "MASTER" above as it's common to both systems.. THe ATS is the last stop (or Option)
Option is a 2nd ATS for an inverter, in case you wonder This may be built into an inverter.. And if everythign works on shore power.. IT too is good
Many RVers, I have found, have a few screws loose.. NO, not the kind Robin Williams had in the Movie RV. Not the Mental kind, the METAL kind.. you tighten, normally, with a #2 square or roberson bit.
(Sometimes different drivers are needed) this includes screws that hold the wires in the ATS, and in the breaker box.. all3 colors in the boxes

Please remember this was only a temporary fix and the proper size wire is key. Please if your not sure, don't do it.
