I removed the seal. Its just stapled from the back. When I put in the backsplash it took the place of the seal to keep anything from seeping behind it. Even if you don't put the backsplash in you could always just caulk it up to the existing paneling.

I just thought I would update everyone on the durability of the Giani countertop paint I did on my 96 Bounder. This is a picture with 4 plus years of use. I still think it looks like the day I did it!!! I couldn't be happier
