Going...going...gone!

We're full-time RVers with several pets and a new child. For the last several years, we have traveled from Southern California to Northern Maine in search of adventure, new friends, and good weather. However, high fuel prices are now cutting into our plans and shaping our lifestyle.

If we went RVing for two weeks once a year, I'm not sure I would care that much about weight issues and fuel mileage. Maybe I would. But as full-timers, we could save thousands of dollars every year if we had a lighter, more fuel efficient motorhome. More importantly, we could once again travel across this beautiful country without going broke.

I find slideouts benefit you twofold: The galley area is no longer a one-way passage. You can extend the table leaf or add a tv tray to provide more useable table space. Getting in & out of the fridge is far more rommier. The whole front cabin area feels more expansive than it physically measures. Eight feet now becomes 11 ft in width; but feels like 15 feet.The more ceiling expanse allows more reflective light to bounce around & give a more expansive impression.

The second in the bedroom gives you room to move about the bed. Usually the headboard of the bed "slides" out; giving the foot of bed use as a dressing bench with drawer storage opposite the bed.Underbed storage access is far better as well.

I feel RV mfgr. will continue the "Disney" approach: something for each sector of the market. We're certain to see more economy in the long-term [3-4 yr.] but very little "instant" reduction. Other mfgr's will continue the fewer output-but-higher-cost methodology as there will always be some more affluent buyers willing to pay whatever the price.
Whether or not personal preference is for marble,etc. the dealer network will still dictate what "taste" is in vogue. We are often powerless with our personal tastes; what sells is what "sells" collectively; not what we are insistsant to buy personally.Marketing thrives on this simple principal.
