You talk about going back in time. We stopped at a gas station at exit 109 in Beaver UT because our tire air pressure monitor in our toad went off. It was a complete full service gas station, (the attendant said they prided themselves for being full service for the last 30 years). They had 3 service bays. We pulled up to one of them; one of the attendants came out ask if we needed help I told him the problem. He checked all 4 tires, filled one of them with air, and had me start the car to check the monitor. As he was doing this I seen several cars getting gas. The attendants were pumping their gas and washing their windshield. I did not check the price of gas (I’m sure it was higher) but is sure brought back memories. By the was the cost of getting my tires checked? 0.

Brings back memories and many of us spent time being a pump jockey in those days. Of course when a pretty girl pulled in for gas there was always a footrace to see who could be first out there to pump her gas and wash her windshield. Remember mini skirts? In any case one day a regular customer who was really good looking and wore really short skirts rolled in. Myself and another pump jockey got into a serious race. Unfortunately for him about 10ft from the car he slipped, fell and slid right under her car.

During a recent trip to Oregon we found that you may NOT pump your own gas due to a state law. All stations have "gas jockys".

So......how much time did you have to spend to get that little spot cleaned on the windshield, you know the one, just above the steering wheel, centered on the drivers side?
I used to work in a gas station too, cleaning windshields can be so enjoyable.

We travel on the New Jersey Turnpike a few times each year with the RV. I like the fact that they pump gas so I am inclined to tip. But, most of the time they will not clean the windshield on the RV. Ergo=no tip. What do you think? My DW says "No tip?" I say "no see no tip." Especially if I get out and do it myself.

Till the gas overflowed the tank!! But it was only 32 cents a gallon.

I know the service station of which you speak. I was en route to Moab one year and stopped to fill 'er up. I had the fuel pumping before they got to me, but an attendant did clean the bugs off the windshield.

Then he says to me, "Hey, did you know your treads are separating?"

I thought to myself, "Well this is a scam, wash the windshield and try to sell a new set of tires to ... Oh..."

Mid-thought I looked at the tires and sure enough, three of the four were separating. They probably saved me a a blow out.

Yup, I remember when many customers would ask for $2 worth. That's eight gallons - maybe half a tank. Two bucks today wouldn't move the needle on the guage.
