Good Sam RS compare to Coachnet
Think very serious ab t leaving that bunch over there, just to many horror stories ab t being left on side of road,(Iblew a tire on I95 one time ,gave Dispatch exact location, How far to next exit she kept asking for address ,I said u don't listen well, no add. on I 95) then the Op calls AAA or somebody else less then 11/2 hr all taken care of. What is eveybody view point on Coachnet please good & BAD

Honestly I had a just as bad experience. I think they use the same people as Good Sams. The reason I say that is I had a valve stem leak at my storage place with Coach-net took 2 hours. The couple years same call same location but used Good Sams 1.5 hours. Most of my problems thru the years have been tire issues and it seem like equal service. I will say I called Coach-net when my W22 brakes started smelling like they had overheated and they were completely worthless.

Both will tow or swap tires.
They don't do brakes.

I have to change from Good Sam's as I have learned they do not go to any commercial properties (State Fair grounds included), where I might be attending a dog show/trial and do not cover if you are in a sandy area, beach camping spots. See exclusion about being off the road check page 16.
http://webcontent.goodsam.com/goodsa...r_Brochure.pdf
I called them to double check this morning and most of the places I go they do not cover.

Page 16 states "*An off-road area is defined as an area OFF of any of the following: hard-packed or graded dirt public road, paved street, driveway, parking lot, highway, freeway, expressway or adjacent shoulder."
I take that to mean that if you get stuck in the woods or on the beach, you are on your own. That makes sense to me. I am only shopping for "roadside" assistance. I can't find any restriction that talks about State Fair Grounds or commercial properties.
I am currently shopping Coach-Net and Good Sam, and it appears that Good Sam will save me $250.00 over a 5 year period to do what I need (motor home, dolly, and two cars). I have been a Coach-Net customer for the past 4 years, but am considering the change. I was left on the side of the interstate in S.C. by Coach Net in the past due to a ruptured hydraulic hose. After 3 hours, multiple calls, and no call back, I unloaded the toad, drove to a truck stop to purchase a couple of gallons of hydraulic oil, drove back to the MH, filled the reservoir and limped back to the truck stop for repair. Still no call back. After the repair was made, I called Coach Net to complain, and I got nothing, no explanation, no apology, nothing. Just an "Oh Well, sometimes that happens." Escalating it to a supervisor resulted in "I'll check into it and call you back" I'm still waiting for the call. Needless to say, my experience was a disappointment.

WOW Chuck, your experience would turn me off, too. It is the first negative I've read on Coach-Net, but through my dog show friends there are many negatives about GS's, because they refused service when needed at these "commercial venues". Most of us only carry a couple of our pets not an RV full of dogs and are usually at parks.

Honestly, I don't think there's a dimes worth of difference in either one! You'll hear horror stories on both.

I have Good Sam for many years. I have never had a problem. Transmission line broke on my car. I called Good Sam and they paid for it to be flat bed hauled to a Dodge dealer 45 miles away from my home. It was not even my toad.

Don't rule out your auto insurance, added mine to Progressive haven't used it yet only have a few trips since bought November 2014 but as the policy reads will be good.

There is a lengthy negative thread about CoachNet on the escapees.com discussion forums.

First let me say we use Coach-Net and they have been wonderful.
Regardless of what roadside assistance provider you use, and they vary with what they will and won't cover so compare policies, they ALL rely on those local vendors in the area where you are broke down and need assistance.
If the local wrecker company is already swamped with calls or is otherwise engaged they might not be able to get to you quick enough to your liking to provide you with assistance. The RA provider has no control over that! They may have to call several vendors to find you one, but it still may take time.
Another reason your RA provider may not be able to get someone to you is they don't have an agreement between them and the local vendor. Much like some doctors offices don't accept certain insurance companies, they can't agree on the fee structure of what they will pay. Same holds true for tow truck companies. If the RA or insurance company won't pay their fee, the wrecker company will tell them to go elsewhere leaving you waiting.
Some RA providers such as the major insurance companies refer their customers to contracted call centers, which are nothing more than a convenient way for them to stay out of the process using a middle man to handle calling the wrecker companies for them to service you. Again, there may be a wait to talk with someone because they are servicing thousands of calls per day not just those from your insurance company or RA provider.
We like Coach-Net because I wasn't forwarded to a call center like I was when we had experienced before with our insurance company.
The most important thing is to have Roadside Assistance that meets the needs of all of your equipment and situation. Get most coverage you can afford, don't scrimp! The cost difference from a basic to deluxe plan is minimal. Its not if it will happen, its when it will happen...Be prepared and covered. Its better to have it and not use it, than not have any and need it.

I have used both CN and GS. Really don't think there is much difference, other than the dog show policy of GS. I do travel with three dogs to agility trials, and there is uncertainty about just what GS will do. The other difference is the CN telephone tech support is more helpful, but this is of minor value to me.
Both use a network of contractors and the quality and response time will vary and is a crapshoot . The problem is that needing roadside assistance really sucks and she thing you want the most is for it all to go away - ain't going to happen, but that's what we want.
The way I see it is that I will probably be unhappy with the response time and a lot of other things about the service. needing roadside service is hardly a foundation for a good day. On the other hand, compared to being stranded on the side of the road without knowing who to call is far worse. If you are lucky you get the same guy as CN or GS would have sent, or you could do worse.
The short answer is that neither service is what we would like it to be, but either is a lot better than nothing.

I was told by GS they will not send help if I am at any dog event so I'm moving to CN as they have said it does not matter where I am.
Thanks for all the replies.

Why would you even say what "event" you are at? Just that "I am broken down at such-and-such location". Are you saying they won't provide service in any parking lot, e.g. you are at a Walmart or restaurant? Or broken down in front of the campground office? That would make it a very poor service indeed! But the GS RA brochure says nothing to that effect. What it does say is that it will not cover:
Quote:
Vehicles in a repair facility, off-road area*, sand beach
area, or any unattended, unlicensed, or abandoned
vehicles.
* An off-road area is defined as an area OFF of any of the following: hardpacked
or graded dirt public road, paved street, driveway, parking lot, highway,
freeway, expressway or adjacent shoulder.
|
That says to me that the parking lot an an exhibition hall is quite clearly covered.
Are they perhaps excluding you because of the commercial nature of your dog show participation? That would be a different kettle of fish.
