Good Sam TravelAssist - Is it worth it?

I am a basic Good Sam member. Of course I get all the usual upgrade notices or additional plans by email. I've gotten several Good Sam TravelAssist applications. The "Pitch" is, "This card is your LIFELINE to getting fast medical help for your and your family, for ANY medical emergency away from home, anywhere in the world. You do NOT HAVE TO BE TRAVELING BY RV; You can be on business or pleasure." It goes on to say it includes: Medical Evacuation; RV/Vehicle return; assistance for companions and Travel Assistance.

Do any of you have TravelAssist? If so, is it worth it? Any experiences or comments would be appreciated.

A program like that is included in your annual membership fee of $50 with FMCA. Nothing else to buy.

One medical evacuation flight could cost you over $30,000

I guess one good advantage also, is the fact they will send someone to get you and your motorhome home in the event of death. I have it, because my wife does not want to learn how to drive the motorhome. Like any insurance, you hope you never have to use it, but when you do, sure makes life easier. Worth is what you think you need.

Also included with the FMCA program and included as part of your membership at no add'l cost. That benefit alone makes it worth while to belong.

I see several posts with the membership fee of $50, but their website has it at $85 with a $10 discount for new members. What’s up with that?

They raised their rate to cover guess what.....their Travel Assist program. Still a good deal.

It’s the other way around. $85 for new members and $75 to renew but still a good deal.

Angry Good Sam Travel Assist is Terrible

We are extremely disappointed with Good Sam Travel Assist. I plan to ask for a full refund!
Our story...We are traveling from Florida in an Class A Motorhome. We are new to RV’s. We broke down on I-35 on our way to Austin Texas just outside of Waco. We thought having a Good Sam Travel Assist membership protected us for such an event. We were WRONG! After many calls, (they use overseas call centers) and Several misleading texts On the ETA from Good Sam’s, we can say...Good Sam Assist is a Farce!
After more than four hours dangerously parked on the side of the highway at Mile Marker 314 on I-35, out of frustration we called Freightliner, the manufacturer of our chassis. Their 24-hr service immediately called Waco Towing & Recovery with us on the line. Within an hour Drake & Ethan we’re onsite getting our rig out of danger and towed to an authorized Freightliner service provider, Lonestar Truck Group.

There is Absolutely no excuse or response that can be made to justify Good Sam’s poor service.

Same here on FMCA. No way my wife will ever drive the coach, just the thought of her driving our 43' rig terrifies her (and me as well)!

FMCA does so many things for the RV community that supporting them is a no-brainer. The added bonus of their wonderful Travel Assist program makes it the best deal in the RV world, in my opinion.
