Hadley Air Horns Rusted - What To Do?

I'm doing roof maintenance now and I have been pondering what to do about these rusted horns. Obviously the previous two owners did not keep them protected and now the rust is coming through the chrome. Additionally the plate they are mounted to is rusted in the center.

I see three options for the horn and one for the plate. The plate I will use use some Boeing rust remover and then some good coats of Rust-Oleum.

The horn choices are:

1. Remove the bulk of the rust and let them continue on the death march
2. Remove the horns and have a metal shop fix the issue - $$$
3. Buy new horns - just the horns not everything else - part number 077497-06-000

I'm leaning towards three if possible, but could go with one until next year maybe if the entire kit needs replacement (old horns vs new parts issues).

Anyone have links to replacement horns?

Here are some pics, those little pit marks are also rust under the chrome pushing up.

Does the MH have a regular horn also?
If so take the rusted ones off and junk.
Last time I remember blowing my air horn, other to see if it was working.
Was probable several years ago.

It only takes one use vs the regular horn to convince me they are staying, even if that was the only time I will ever need them.

Turning right onto a street, the guy in front of me stops and starts backing up - why he can't see the huge wall of an RV behind him, I don't know. I hit the horn which is initially the regular horn and he keeps coming. Full on press of the horn brings on the air horn and he stops just before plowing into me. Maybe full press of the regular horn would have worked too, but I'm not taking the chance with drivers like that.

Ouch, WinnebagoParts.com says $392.46 plus S/H for just the horns and brackets.

So if I go that route what would I be looking at for removal and replacement?

I looked up Hadleys and the pics looked just like mine. Went back out and looked and they are Hadleys.

Did you buy them from them and that was the price, because in a quick search of their site I could not find them.

Mike....those are Hadleys. I would remove them, clean up the rust and repaint gloss black, or gloss white. I had the same horns and luckily I polished them regularly and they didn't rust. My new coach has Hadleys, look like stainless steel and are thinner. They don't have the deep roar of the ones you have.

If you decide to paint or re-chrome, you can call Hadley and they will send you the new front labels for free.

So if I replaced them with a new set, they are now the SS and thinner ones? I would not mind black painted but the effort of stripping the chrome and getting the rust out is not worth it if the price Dave quoted above is correct and they are the same exact ones.

I may just strip as much rust off as possible and prime the areas with Rust-Oleum. You really can't see them from the ground close enough to notice the rust or the primer paint if I go that route.

I'm going to strip the sealant around them anyway to get a good seal on my front cap and that metal plate with Eternabond tape.

So I took a look at Hadley's website and they make them in three metal/styles in this type of horn. Steel Chrome, Aluminum Chrome and Anodized aluminum. I used their part number for the Steel Chrome and found them on eBay for about $277 shipped. So tomorrow I will check with Veurink and see what price they have.

I still have the question if these new horns are different than the 10 yo ones? Hadley does call these ones "Legacy".

Mike.......I know my 2005 horns looked just like yours. My new ones are not highly polished. My guess is SS. They look okay, but I liked the old chromes ones better. As stated, they just don't have as deep a tone.

Take them and have them powder coated to match the color of the coach or coat them black. Powder coating stands up excellent out in the elements.
