Hello! I'm new to the world of RVing!

When I found out Uncle Sam consider Motorhomes the same as brick & mortar homes, I jumped at the chance of ownership. I'd lived out of the country (Jamaica) too long and had "dropped" off US financial radar (retired flight attendant). I needed a major US investment. I didn't want to drive a huge RV due to fuel cost & the fact I've never driven anything larger than a small U-haul. I purchased a 1988 Toyota Itasca Spirit last year in Arizona & drove it to San Diego California with plans to customize to it my taste. I ended up using it as transportation while caring for my aging mom who recently passed away this year. To make matters worse, I'd remarried (a Chicago guy) & moved downtown Chicago but maintained my west coast style of living, and my home in Jamaica. When mom passed away I drove my RV from California to Chicago - the last place in the world to own an RV. I've become quite attached to my RV. It runs great because it's a Toyota, approximately 20mpg, 20ft long, and fits in a regular parking spot. My goal is to rehab the inside & to drive it south (Florida) before winter comes - I don't do snow. Only problem with that, can't find any RV repair shops near Chicago. The previous owner had a water leak over the cab (the bed area) which make that area unusable for sleeping, plus the electrical system don't work on the entire left side (yes, I checked all fuses). Any suggestions?

Yes some rv's are interest tax deductible, I've herd the IRS is making it hard to right them off for business.

Lot of RV shops in the Elkhart Indiana area. Is that too far to go?
