Help with my Winnie-Minnie!!!!

Hi,

I'm new to the forum because we just bought a 2005 Winnebago M-27P. It had 16,000 origional miles and worked great for about 300 miles. Today, I got an "Electronic throttle control" idiot light followed by a "service engine soon" light. The vehicle began to miss badly and I took it to the dealer where we purchased it. He sent us to a mechanical shop they use and after a couple of hours of diagnosis, I was told it was a computer glich and the problem was solved. We packed up and strarted out on a Memorial Day week-end trip. 30 minutes on the road, the same idiot lights came on and we abandoned our trip. I'll return to the dealer tomorrow, but I need to know if anyone on the forum has had this problem and can clue me in on what to tell the dealer? It's a beautiful unit, but we live in Alaska so roadtrips are long and without ammenities. I need to get this problem fixed ASAP and get back on the road. Thanks for any help you can share.

Dan, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. Sorry to hear of the engine problem. Whatever chassis you are on is where you need to take the unit to and have them plug the computer into it and scan for the problem. It sounds like it could be a simple fix; maybe a MAP sensor or something. Good luck and keep us posted. Let us know what chassis you are on too.

From what I read about this sort of problem on a Ford chassis, the "Electronic Throttle Control" module is failing to communicate to the "Power Train Control Module" and thus the error code is generated. I would be looking for poor or corroded wire connections between the two, a common source of intermittent problems (Computer glitches) in car electronics.

Winnebago woes.....

Thanks all, I appreciate your help. The vehicle is currently at the dealers being checked over and your suggestions were included in my instructions to the mechanic. It is a Ford frame and may have to go the locla Ford dealership. I'll let you know how things turn out. All the best!

A lot of the smaller ford dealerships won't touch a E450 chassis, although it is the same basic drive train as the E350 chassis. Most don't have the lift to handle such a heaavy unit.

You might try unplugging the plugs from the sensors and computer, make sure they are clean and plug them in again.

Keep us posted. We had a 99 Minnie Winnie DL 31A and loved it.

Winnie well!

The Electronic Throttle Control module was the culprit. Ford checked the vehicle out, replaced the bad mod and so far, no errors after 100 mile road test. This forum was dead on as to the problem. Thanks for your advice and drop a line if you head for Alaska. Lots to see and do in the Last Frontier! I'll be fishing on the Kenai next week. All the best!
