Here is my problem.
when plugged into a 30 amp shore power all my outlets, lights, microwave and ac units work. I have 2 ac units with a switch to run the front or rear. turn switch to front and front ac runs turn to rear and rear ac runs.
when generator is running ac units work but turn switch to front and rear ac runs, turn to rear and front ac runs. also I lose all power to outlets, lights, and microwave.
I also had plugged into shore power and started generator and it seemed to stay on shore power since everything worked normal. when I pulled shore power ac units worked in reverse of switch and no power to outlets, microwave etc.
Whats up???

dgren, welcome to iRV2.com. It sounds like you have either a wiring problem between generator and transfer switch or possibly a bad set of contacts in the transfer switch. Are you comfortable in working with elctricity? If not I would recommend you have a qualified individual check this issue out and make neccessary repairs. GOod luck and enjoy the website.

dgren,
As Mike said plus can you provide the make, model and year of your RV.
Although it may be that someone cross wired something in the transfer switch connections, which is what I found when I first purchased my current coach, it could also be something as simple as one of the breakers built into the generator are tripped. Open up the access panel on the generator and see if one of the breakers or reset buttons inside there are tripped. It could also be a combination of all things mentioned thus far.
It is generally normal for the shore power to override the generator when both are active.
Give us more data and let us know when/how things get worked out.

Hello dgren,
As Mike and Neil said, more info on your RV would be helpful. Is this a new problem on an RV you have had for a while or on an RV you just acquired?
If your transfer switch stays on shore power after the generator has been running for more than two minutes then you have, at least, a transfer switch problem. I have had both Fleetwood and Monaco products and on all of them the transfer switch will default to the the generator power, when both generator and shore power are present. You should check your owner's manual for confirmation.
Green lights and soft breezes,

Thanks for the help. Found the 30 amp circuit breaker on generator had been triped. reset and all seems to work ok. I still need to plug in to a 30 amp service and see if generator will over ride the shore power.
