Hey Handy Guy.. What can I make to fix this "too high" commode?

I'm 5'9" and can't touch the floor when on the commode. My wife is 4'11" and she has to almost jump up to get on it. They (Winnebago) mounted the commode on a pedestal. Not sure why since I haven't torn it apart.
What I need is some suggestions on a "step" of some sort, that can be folded out of the way (the door swings right in front of the base) for entrance/exit. There's not much room for a floating step stool so I'd like to make it so that is "disappears". I thought about a drawer type step so it slides under the toilet pedestal, but I'm sure it would not end up being very deep because of the plumbing it would have to miss when pushed in.

Any ideas Mr. Handyman?

Davismill.. We do have one of those. I was just trying to get away from the 'temporary' type stool. Maybe I could permanently attach one side of it to the toilet base, so that you slide it open.. push it closed.. Hmmm.. food for thought.

That's the first time I have heard this complaint. Most are just the opposite where the toilet is too low. I know I wish mine was higher but that's another story. I would call the mfg and see if they have a replacement model that is lower. Using a step stool is not safe. JMO

FWIW our floor problem is a bit different but the toilet issue is the same. I took some 3/4 plywood and used it with some 2x4 set on edge to make a ~4 in riser then covered it with some indoor/outdoor carpet that was a close match.

All joking aside, we also have a toilet that is a bit too high for comfort. Lowering the platform seems obvious, but you may be (as we are) thwarted by bends in the pipe that really can't be shortened. Our toilet base flange is offset laterally about 3 inches from the opening in the black waste tank. I can still see into the tank through the toilet, but it is not vertical. If you are lucky enough to have a straight vertical pipe between the base flange and the tank, it is probably a simple task to reduce the platform height. Even if it's not purely vertical, you may be able to re-do the pipe with more acute bends, i.e. 45 degrees instead of 30 or 22.5, and still maintain the horizontal position of the toilet. There's nothing magical about the plumbing or carpentry involved.

I rebuilt mine last spring to replace the entire platform, which was damaged by wastewater leaking through a cracked base flange. Carpet is very absorbent, which hid the seepage until the damage was extensive.

It is hard to tell from the picture but the pedestal looks like a standard two inch riser available at many RV stores. If so the toilet can be removed, the pedestal removed and the toilet reinstalled.
