Hooked up to water and toilet won’t stop running!
Good morning everyone! We pulled in and hooked up to water last night and after I flushed the toilet once, the water never stopped so I had to shut the water down for the night at the source. Any idea how we can shut the toilet off so we can fill up our clean tank for showers? Right now if I try and fill; the water is going to flow through the toilet and will certainly overflow and flood our rig.
Thanks!

Do you have a water pressure regulator / reducer installed? I suspect the city water pressure is keeping the valve open.

Without a valve there’s no real way to shut it off. You could go to a local hardware store and buy a shark bite valve to shut it off but otherwise your kinda out of luck.

Try pulling up the pedal. Look behind the toilet for the water valve, maybe it can be turned to off. Look for a link that poped out of the valve.

Thanks for the quick answers and suggestions!
I do have a regulator installed, I’m gonna mess with it some more here this morning now that we’re rested- we pulled in late last night.
Thanks!

Had the same happen when I had the 5er. Ended up taking the toilet out to get to the back valve. This was an easy removal. The foot pedal opens the valve to let the water into the bowl. Release the pedal and the valve closes. The valve was being held open, at a filter in it, by tiny buildup of white crystals. Calcium deposits I think. Anyway, cleaned them out and it worked fine. Had to do this a couple times. The 5er didn’t have a whole RV water filter. I would have added that had we kept the unit. Good luck!

this is the same reason I installed a simple ordinary water 'cut off' handle/valve the time this happened to us... now I can cut off the water to the toilet without having to shut it off in the whole coach : )

I did the same thing today- got a in-line ball valve to shut off the water to the toilet so it is extremely manual now, which is good, and dry, and not-a-flood-risk!
We did plan on replacing the toilet, but this might do for a while!

" we pulled in late last night."
Have you ever noticed none of this stuff ever occurs when you are home and able to work on it?

Did this only happen when hooked up to city water or even with only the water pump working? Seem strange if the toilet worked fine on the water pump.

I'd replace the valve in the toilet first. It's usually easy to do, and less expensive than a new toilet. You could inspect the vacuum breaker and seals at the same time, replacing or cleaning as needed.
That new shutoff valve will come in handy, as you can work on the toilet while keeping water pressure to the rest of the coach.
