Thanks everybody for getting back to our first ever post re:batteries. We have decided to go with four 6 volt batteries. Anyone have any ideas as to brand longevity? We can accomodate 10 " x 7" by 7" (four times). Price is not really an issue as we are trying to be more full time and want something that lasts. We are thinking of gel. Will they work with solar?

Are you sure of those measurements? A quick check and I do not see anything that
will fit.

A lot of people on this site swear by Trojan Batteries T-105. A lot of people also swear by cheaper batteries like the GC-2 batteries sold at Costco and Sams club. Check them both out, see what you think.

Do you have a slide-out tray for your batteries?

You don't want gel cells, notoriously difficult to charge correctly.
You do want AGM batteries, they cost twice as much, but require
zero maintenance, don't out gas corrosive acids, and can be
mounted in any position. Your sizes, as noted, do not look
like any 6 volt GC-2's that I have seen.

According to the Monaco brochure for your coach, the OEM was four 6 volt house batteries. That would indicate that you have room for what you want. Your measurements don't match golf carts though so I would double check. The OEM was also for one 8D 12 v battery for the chassis if the ISC engine and 2 batteries if the ISM. It doesn't specify but if 2 batteries they may be group 31. It's possible a previous owner rearranged the batteries.

I just got back from Sam's Club. Our batts are 9 years old now, so I thought I'd check on what I'm faced with price wise. Their Duracell GC-2's are L-10& 3/8" X W- 7 & 3/16" X H- 10 & 5/8" and are $84.52 ea. + tax. The sales guy said their AGMs are the same size, but just a tad under 2X the price.

With the exception of the height dimension, your pretty close on your measurements.

I'd think you need to remeasure the battery compartment. In my limited experience most six volt batteries are taller than 12 volt batteries.

Ok, After weeks of reading everything I think about batteries I installed (3) new batteries from Interstate 31-ECL ( Extreme Cycle Life ). I know it is listed every where as a starting battery but after a lot of research I found out that it is built like a Deep Cycle ( very thick plates ) and according to Interstate it proforms a lot like an AGM and are completely maintenance free. CCA 700,RC 190, A/H 104.5 I'll keep you posted how they work out.

That may not be enough space.. This is the size of an Interstate GC-2, By the way Interstate is a decent battery L=10-1/4 W=7-1/8 H=11-1/4

Trojan is considered the best, for flooded wet cells, Lifeline for AGM. interstate is a good brand though.. I'll be buying DEKA very soon.

If you have a Sam's or Costco membership they are cheaper and I'm not convinced the better batteries are worth the added cost..

However.......... You did ask which was best.. My interstates have been seriously abused... Run down below 10 volts several times, Starting in their first year... They lasted over 8.5 years. Due for replacement....Monday.

The choice to go with Deka... Is based on what is sold near where I'm parked.
