I guess it depends on how much you are going to use the EZ Pass. If you will use it frequently enough the discounts will offset the initial cost. We don't travel the toll road systems enough to justify one, so we just pay cash or get the bill in the mail from the state's DOT.

I don't think they can not take cash. Don't they all have at least 1 lane that accepts cash (unless, of course, they're the photo-the-license plate/bill later type)?

Depending on which state you get transponder from, it could be free. We got ours from Illinois even though we live ekser. There was niychsrgey, not even for shipping. Only expense was loading it up for use to pay tolls, and that's are the discounted prices.

There are many places with no cash lanes at all, especially some lesser used exits. If you don't have a transponder you will pay the full price, and sometimes even a billing surcharge.

Get a transponder and make it easy.

We use the Sunpass Transponder here in Florida. Works on all toll roads in Florida, and is interoperable with Georgia's Peachpass system and North Carolina's Quick Pass system.

You would think someday all of these systems are going to have reciprocity agreements with each other. One can only hope!

and in illinois the toll authority has replaced humans with self-serve pay machines at some exits. local paper revealed the other day that if you pay cash at some of those machines they do not give change. tollway auth. had no comment. fyi.

EZ Pass is accepted on roads managed by the Central Florida Expressway Authority, but not accepted on roads manged by the FL Dept. of Transportain, such as the FL turnpike. The turnpike authority is doing away with toll collectors and going with plate readers, and sending bills through the mail with surcharges on top of the tolls. There are some exits where you will receive a hefty fine if you use them and don't have a Sun Pass.

Here is the link that explains the NC Quick Pass, You want the NC Quick Pass E-Z Pass Interior Transponder. Initial cost $7.40 and then $1.00/mo if not used in 12 mo. I bought 2 - one for MH and one for toad.

https://www.ncquickpass.com/resource...nsponders.aspx

The NC Quick Pass E-ZPass work on toll facilities in North Carolina, Florida (SunPass), Georgia (Peach Pass) and the following states where E-ZPass is accepted.

Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Illinois
Indiana
Kentucky
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Virginia
West Virginia

Here is a post on the subject.

No many states have gone to Camera systems. Transponders or pay by plate camera mail systems. Transponders tolls are cheaper than pay-by-plate. Florida's new E-pass Extra is good in 18 states. Transponder cost $18.50 In Florida there are 3 different systems. E-pass extra does them all. Regular e-pass transponder if free but not good much outside of Florida. MA Pike has done away with toll booths. MA Pike transponders are free. I bought the E-pass Extra and will turn my MA Pike one when I go back next summer.

Florida has a new system called E-pass Extra. Good all over Florida and 18 states.

New York EZ Pass - no brainer.

Discounted rate on NYS Thru Way. Must prove motor home ownership at EZ Pass registration - (EZ to do)

Accepted at all east coat toll roads that I am aware of.

Not accepted on Florida Toll roads, although I did read there is a "new" pass issued by Florida, which now is accepted at all toll gates up and down the east coast.....

If you are going to the Tampa area, rather than go through Orlando (toll roads), take I-10 east to I-75. Should be no tolls.

Good luck and have a safe trip.

Toll road Interoperability was mandated by congress in 2012 for a completion date in 2016. Still not there.

For your trip it's a non-issue. Once you leave LI/NY , there are really no toll roads on the way to Tampa. We travel from Tampa to Maine every year and the only area we hit tolls is on the Mass Pike( if we go that way, and it's toll by plate) ) and I-95 in Maine which has cash booths . The rest of the trip is toll free.
That being said, the NC pass would be the most useful, if you really want a transponder.

Thanks for that

Reciprocity between the states only makes sense given our present day circumstances where machines of one type or another control just about everything in our lives.

Will have to play with the Garmin RV660LTM to see what happens if you program it for "no tolls" versus "tolls". For now thanks for all your input and suggestions
