Hey All...

Just wondering: How long do you go before you turn off your city water and/or water pump when leaving your rig?

If you leave for an hour, a few hours, all day, etc. do you leave your city water on and hooked up or do you shut her down?

I do it whenever I leave, unless I space out.

Never know when things will want to start leaking...Seems like cheap insurance to me.

What say you all?

Have never turned off the water pump when on a trip since I never know when I'll need it. Always do when stored beside the house though since I don't need to use it then.

I usually am hooked to a water supply, so I leave it on. On a couple of stays at the ranch were I didn't have a hook-up, I left the pump on too. Maybe to trusting?

We leave the water on when hooked up to city water, whether we are at the MH or not. When we are using the water pump we turn it on/of when we use it. Ours has a switch next to every water source.

I try to remember to turn off the city water when we leave for 4 hours or more.
WE never leave the water pump energized since it is so easy to turn on from any sink or bathroom.
Everytime the coach is driven, there is a new opportunity for creating a leak....more so than at home where the house never moves....well some times it moves since we are in CA..

The damage is too great if something happens.
At home we turn off the water to our home interior when leaving for a weekend or longer.....again hardwood floors.

I'd say you should either not bother turning off city water or pump (which after all is what you do when living in a house), OR turn them off whenever there is nobody inside the RV. Anything else is notg very logical
Given the amount of water that comes out of a burst pipe, even a couple of minutes free flow is more than enough to do a lot of damage.

City water I leave on, I also install the pressure regulator when I hook up to City.

We usually turn off the water pump when not in use, simply because its loud and obnoxious when it kicks in

The only time we have turned off the water when connected to city water was when we had to leave for days at a time and not connected to sewer. We figured that even a slow drip from a faucet could fill the holding tank and the bathroom sink drains into the black tank.

The pump is usually off unless in use.

It would have to be days rather than hours for us to turn off either pump or city water. Whether at home or in RV.

It seems to be popular in RVing circles to imagine that pipes will likely burst if left unattended for even a brief period, yet the same people leave their stick & brick homes with the water on all the time. Granted, a leaky water line can cause a lot of damage, but I don't think the paranoia is justified.

We parked next to a couple with a brand new MH back in 2002. They left the MH for the week plugged to shore power and water.

A day or so later water was flowing out of the rig!

We try to remember to turn off the shore water when leaving the RV park. The water pump is off when connected to shore water.

I don't turn the water off in my coach, when I leave for a while. Nor do turn the water off in my house when I leave it for a while. In all the years I've been RVing I've never had anyone tell me about a water line that broke when they were out.

More new ones leak than used ones, at least that has been my experience. I usually leave mine on unless I will be away for more than a day. On a new rig I recommend turning the water off until you have used it , tested it, and trust it.
