How long does Dicor last?

I have my MH at the dealer for a new windshield and to set my new Fisher & Paykel refrigerator inside (I will install later). They suggested that I should have them strip off the old Dicor and re-caulk everything. My MH is 4 years old. I am not so naïve to think that the Dicor needs to be stripped often, but I know that it has a finite life expectancy and was wondering how long it really lasts. There is nothing on their web-site about that. Anybody out here have some real-world experience?

I am not sure there is an age limit, but my rig is 7 years old and has never had it removed. I do check for cracks in the existing Dicor, and if any areas are found I clean the area and fill in the cracks with new Dicor. I would imagine at some point I may have a build up of it in an area, may take some off then.

You don't need to pay anyone for stripping off the old sealer! That would cost you big bucks! The 4" EternaBond tape will go on right over the old sealant and last a LONG time! Just clean the area good with Acetone and you will be good to go!

You can easily do this yourself unless there's a physical restriction.

I suggest you, or someone you trust that doesn't have a monetary interest, go up and inspect it. I agree with Joe, it's DIY unless you can't. A heat gun can help soften it, a putty knife, and a caulking gun are the main tools needed. With a unit as new as yours, perhaps an item or two might need a touch up, but not the whole roof! I think your dealer has a boat payment due!

Ours was in this fall for it's end of summer oil and filter changes and awning adjustment and my tech said I had some cracks in mine on the roof and did I want him to go over it and reseal. After a few minute discussion, he said to just add more over the existing to fill in the cracks and I went past the existing around everything I resealed. 8 tubes later and I think I am good for another 6-8 years.

It won't necessarily last 7-8 yrs if it's in the sun and elements 24/7.
