How many have an alarm system in their rv?
Since I drive a class A and consider it a small house, I was wondering whether or not to install an alarm to monitor the door and windows. Your thoughts, experiences, suggestions ...

My alarm is the sound of the 12ga pump action chambering a round.

I've never thought about it but if it makes one feel more secure and they have the bucks, I say go for it.

I have a very effective alarm. Every time I do something wrong I hear a lot of loud noises from DW.
Never leaves any doubt that something is going wrong.

it's a different world today and I don't blame anyone who wants to feel secure. Being retired from law enforcement for 20 years, I am seriously thinking of alarming my MH too.

I used what I had on hand and it works. My motorhome is in my driveway.
I had a "Driveway Patrol" that didn't work so well outside (wind/trees) so I put it in the motorhome. It is just a motion detector (in RV) with wireless signal to a receiver (in house) that rings a doorbell sound when something trips the motion detector.
Also, I had a wireless video camera that talks through my router - motion or noise is recorded on my laptop. This picks up about 5 false alarms a night (car lights) and is not needed with the 'Driveway Patrol' on duty.

Check with your insurance carrier and see if an alarm system will reduce your premiums. Then only you will be able to justify the cost comparison and 'piece of mind' factor. Alarm is like a door lock, keeps honest people honest.

The Allure we recently got has an alarm. It is OK but sort of a nuisance. If I forget to unlock the doors/disable the alarm and try to enter one of the storage compartments, it starts to 'whoop, whoop.' That is OK for when it is stored at home but I would not want that going off in an RV park if I was not there to disarm it.
So, our two dogs will do fine when we are not there and me and the 1911 will have to do when I am on board.

When is the last time you saw a bunch of people running to see what set off a car alarm? My opinion: If it's not calling the cops in your absence, it's worthless. And if it is, it's still mostly worthless because bad guys will be long gone before the cops can figure out where to go.

If you guys decide to install alarms, please do the rest of us a favor and do all you can to eliminate false alarms. Three times in the last couple of years (once in the middle of the night) alarms on a couple of motorhomes and a fifth wheel in rv parks where we were have gone off when no one was there. The alarms continued for hours until the owners returned and could shut them off. Needless to say, the owners were not the most popular couples around for a while.

There are threads here regarding this system - I have been thinking about it. Wondering who is the cellular carrier and their coverage areas?

The alarm our new car has on it makes no sounds but if anyone tries to move the car more than 1 mile from where it was parked we get a phone call to ask if it was authorized. If not then the cops get called with where the car is at right then. They call it "Lo-Jack on steroids".
