how to charge house batteries

I need to put an external charger on the house batteries (Two 6 volt batteries) Do I need to disconnect the batteries from the coach or can I simply connect the charger and turn it on?

Thanks

You can leave them connected. Be sure to connect to the negative terminal that is going to the chassis ground and the positive terminal going to the relays. This way you are charging the batteries in series. You do not want to separate each battery and put a 12 volt charge on a 6 volt battery.

I was thinking of disconnecting the positive from from the relay and the ground from the motorhome to protect the motorhomes electrical systems ( from what I dunno) and leave the batteries connected to each other. I guess this is unnecessary. I will connect in series with charger.

Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure what type of charger you are using but if you have a disconnect switch for the house batteries you might consider turning it off when charging. Some chargers don't put out a lot of juice and if you've got systems running in the coach they could possibly overwhelm the charger.

Hey good idea. I will use the disconnect switch. This should alleviate my fears. I am using a motor master eliminator intelligent battery charger with optimal charge logic. It sounds pretty good.
