We have a '05 Dolphin with a bed/closet slide. Yesterday I noticed a damp spot on the carpet in the closet. The MH has not been used in several weeks but parked with the slide out.

Two questions please:
What is the best way to find the source of this leak?

Is it best to keep the slides in while not using the MH?

camping world now has a way to preasurize inside of m/h to find leaks. cost i think is about $80.00. not all stores have it . good luck. dave

You didn't say, but I'm assuming you are talking about a rain leak, not a plumbing leak. Maybe someone could hose around the slide from the outside while you crawl around inside with a flashlight. It may be tough to trace because these leaks can "travel" along panels quite a distance before getting inside.

Correct, rain leak.

First, start with looking at the slideout gaskets inside and out with the room 1/2 way out. Look for any inperfections, the top gasket should overlap the sides and the sides overlap the bottom. Run the room all the way out and verify that you have the same amount of spacing on the inside around the flange to the wall. If not the room needs adjusting to get it so. If so then proceed to do a water leak test with someone inside while another wets the exterior. Good luck and let us know what you find.

It has taken some time but I have found the source of the leak. As could be expected; caulking has dried and seperated. This is on one coner (top and bottom) of the slide-out.

I have some self-leveling caulk I purchased for roof application, can this be used here or is there something better?

The Seal Tech system is the best leak finder available. Read the caulk label carefully before using in on a EPDM roof covering. Any petroleum content will ruin your roof covering. Silicone causes a whole new problem.Dicor expains EPDM roof treatment very well.

Florabama, if you have the self leveling lap sealant safe for EPDM roof materiean it is what you wiull want to use on the slideout roof as well. GLad you found the problem. Good luck and keep an eye on all your seems; when they need resealing, clean and reseal.
