need to buy a dehumidifier for motorhome. What kind is recommended and where did you purchase.

Never used one. We adjust vents and windows to control humidity. We RV in temps from the teens to the 100's. Takes some practice, but easily do-able. Occasionally we'll get a bit of fog on the windshield before we head out in the AM but the dash fans take care of that before we're ready to roll.

Works pretty well. Since we're in Florida and most of the year we have the AC going a dehumidifier isn't required. But when it's in the 40s with 3 or 4 people in the coach there's lots of water condensing on our windows, escpecially in the morning. Puddles on the front dash sometimes. The dehumidifer stopped all that. It lives under our bed when not in use.

If its 60F outside with 100% humidity, there's nothing you can do to reduce the humidity level inside the RV by opening vents and windows. This is more an issue for those of us full timing.

I use a large GE home dehumidifier that I bought at Home Depot for use in a house basement. Its way overkill for the RV, but works great. Its also nice for pulling out the humidity when the A/C is on but its not hot enough outside for the A/C to run long enough to dehumidify. That stops the A/C unit from icing up.

I have only used one De-Humidifier in my life.. I will explain the problem (And solutions) to de-humidifiers

The unit is basically an air conditioenr where both hot and cold (Condenser and evaproator) are serviced by the same fan/blower,, Normally aire is sucked in over /through one and then blown out over/through the other. Water condenses on the cold coils and drips into a catch basin which needs frequent emptying.

I set mine on a plank over the washing machine tub and drilled out the hose fitting so it would drain into the tub below.. never had to empty it

in an RV you might drain into the shower and let that drain or if you can find a good spot even let it drain out onto the ground (often via existing holes in the floor) (yes I knwo where to look,,,, look where existing pipes go through the floor).

2nd problem was the unit I had was old, purchesed by house's prior owner, Needed Re-charge.. Back then I could do that.. Today you need a license to do that.

I've been researching a dehumidifier also. Ended up ordering Danby Premiere 30-Pint Dehumidifier from Home Depot for $139.99 with free shipping. The unit has defrosting coils, two speed fan, front access drain pan, hose option, and effective to 41 degrees according to specs. Good reviews. Cost was significantly less than Amazon Prime. The unit is shipping today. Anxious to see how well it works.

I run a 50 pint Whirlpool on a timer, set to run 12 out of every 24hrs, (3hrs at a time) in my stored coach. It's set at 50% humidity, and I have to empty the bucket weekly on wet rainy weeks. So I'm pulling about a gallon and a half each week.
Those 'Damp-rid' things will mabe collect that much condensation in 6 months!!
