On my HWH 200 series leveling system, I have a pesky hydraulic leak at the hose fitting/control lever connection. It is not a leak where the rubber hose is fitted into the metal connector but rather where the fitting screws onto a 90* elbow. I've loosened and re-tightened to no avail.
Question; is it ever OK to wrap the male end of the fitting with teflon tape to try and stem this pesky drip? If not, then it's time to replace the fitting, which I'll do, but wanted to check with the collective here for options.

Thanks.

My experience is that it is impossible to stop a hydrolic leak with tape. To much pressure. You will have to replace fitting. Its easy to do.

I would call HWH great people. The line can be replaced. HWH knows the system and the right size.

Local hydraulic suppliers can make new lines if you give them the old hose or the size and style of fitting and the length of hose you want. I would recommend you change the hose if you are going to the trouble to remove. It would be a shame to have the fitting replaced and then later the hose springs a leak.

Just a caution if you end up removing and replacing the hose. DO NOT refill the reservoir with hydraulic jack oil you buy at the auto parts store. Use HWH hydraulic fluid. I think Dexron III transmission fluid can also be used - check the manual.

Wizard,
I agree completely,I wouldn't bother with a fitting changeout, it'll be the complete assembly.
Thanks everyone for your insight.

I'll second that! After replacing a hose and bleeding the jack, I topped off the reservoir with generic hydralic fluid. A call to HWH confirmed that I had screwed up. Hydralic fluid damages the seals. Had to siphon all the fluid out of the reservoir (6 quarts!) and replace it with ATF. I used Mobil 1 synthetic and it actually improved the speed and power of the system quite noticably.
