Our HWH jacks stopped working on the last
day of our cross country drive. Diagnosis:
needs a new pump. I've got a tech who's
agreed to install the thing, but he's
vague about where or when he can get the
replacement. Far as I know, HWH has them,
but I don't quite know what to ask for
when I peruse the parts list. Can anyone
enlighten me about this procedure?

Thanks

Hi Art,

We recently had a problem with one of our HWH jacks it intermittently wouldn't retract by itself. A call to HWH connected me to some very good technical advisors. They helped me to understand what my problem was and got the part shipped to me based on the diagnostics that I did myself. Fortunately, I am a professional auto technician!

You should have a model number and serial number on your main pump motor and manifold unit if it's similar to the one that I have. Our system uses only one pump and motor to operate the jacks and the slide rooms. Our system also has model numbers and serial numbers on each individual jack. (Unfortunately, the operator's manual just has generic info on possible systems available for our coach.) These numbers will definitely help when you call HWH. They may be receptive to speaking directly to your technician and possibly ship the parts to him.

You may already have this, but their website is www.hwhcorp.com and their phone is (800) 321-3494, 8am-5pm Central Time (M-F).

Good luck. I hope this is helpful.

Jim, thanks. I have the old warranty card
with the serial and model numbers. I talked
to HWH, before i had the tech onsite, and
I was hesitant to order the pump because
my multi-meter wasn't working, and I wasn't
absolutely sure. HWH's phone
guy and the tech agreed about the problem,
but I think my tech is trying to get
a markup somewhere (which is understandable)
but if it delays my repair I'm going to tell
him to get a move on or lose my business.

Let me ask you this: the tech says the pump
is all the cylinders, wires, motor and reservoir.
Is this correct? He says it would be
more expensive to rebuild it piecemeal.
Is this going to cost me (for parts) more
than a thousand dollars?

Hi Art,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. My wife did a little research on HWH's website and found a master parts list with prices and suggested markup percentages.

Since we don't know exactly which pump assembly you need we found them ranging anywhere from $300 to over $2,000! It was hard to tell if they were complete units with all the cylinders, wires, motor and reservoir. So I really can't answer your question about that.

Your tech may be right that it could cost more to "piecemeal" it because sometimes the individual parts can be more expensive to buy separately than a unit and then there's more labor involved to disassemble and re-assemble the unit. I find this to be the case at times with the cars and trucks I deal with on a daily basis.

I wish I could be of more help. If I may suggest you try posting your query in the Motorhome section under Problems, Solutions & After Market. You may also want to try to contact RV Wizard who is on this forum and is a certified RV technician.
