My 2004 Chinook Glacier is equipped with HWH 2000 series kick down jacks and the Model 625 computerized leveling system control panel.

On several occasions with the jacks retracted in the travel mode, I have turned on the ignition switch to start the engine and the jacks have extended. I have not touched the control panel. The hydraulic pump will not stop cycling until I push the "store" button on the panel.

HWH informs me that the computer is powered by the chassis and coach batteries and is very sensitive to low battery power. The coach's battery condition meter has indicated that the batteries have always been at least sixty percent charged. I do not know the rate of charge of the chassis battery. However, it is an Optima Red Top battery that has never failed to start the engine.

HWH also suggested that moisture in the control "cans" may cause this malfunction. A competent Chinook dealer checked them out and could not find anything wrong.

On a recent trip, the coach had been connected to shore power for two days with the jacks extended. The batteries were completely charged. I unplugged the shore power, turned the ignition swith on and the jacks retracted! I did not touch the control panel.

Yesterday, the jacks extended when the coach batteries were completely charged.

HWH has listened patiently while I described my problem but have not offered a solution.

I cannot call Trailwagons Chinook for advice because they are no longer in business.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? How did you correct the problem?

I find the low battery explantion hard to accept.

Look behind the control panel and see if you have a "computer" that the switches are connected. While I have a power gear on our current MH, do not remember what my HWH had on our previous MH. My power gear would not work any more so they put a new "module" on and it still did not work. So the Factory put another module on and it works like its supposed to. Sounds like your control module is acting up. Really liked the HWH jacks much better than the power gear. But the problem I have may be the jacks are under powered/size for our MH. s.Toby

I am not an HWH expert, but I am a retired electronic tech. and I find the low voltage answer very difficult to believe as well. Has it ever done this with the battery fully charged? And can you retract the jacks once they do go down? I would not reccomend random parts replacement as that could get very expensive, with very little result. It might be worthwhile to pay a tech on this one.

Kirk,

Thank you for your post. Yes, the jacks have extended with a fully charged battery. On one occasion the jacks had been extended to level the coach while connected to shore power. I disconnected the shore power, turned on the ignition switch and the jacks retracted without touching the control panel.

I am able to retract the jacks after they have extended. The hydraulic pump cycles continuously until I press the "store" button.

The coach has spent the past week at a competent Chinook dealer. Their tech has never experienced this problem and so far, they have been unable to duplicate the problem. They have decided to allow the battery to discharge somewhat and will see what happens on Monday.

Like you, they recommend against randomly replacing parts.

Thanks for your interest, Jeff
