What year and model do you have? It may be to keep water, mud and other thigs from being splashed unto the pump assembly. Unless you see hydraulic fluid or ATF in this case on the ground or on the motorhome you would not have to check the fluid level very often if at all. You could also call Itasca and ask them of the reason it is there. Let us know what you find out.
