HWH solenoid removal

Anyone know how to remove the HWH solenoid on a 310 jack system? I got both the electrical connector and the end cap off but no clue how the solenoid is removed. I am guessing it unscrews, but they are so close together, and no flats for a wrench, so methinks there must be a secret passage, so to speak.

Channel-lok pliers worked for me. You will spill approx 2-3 ounces of hydraulic fluid...so place an old rag under it beforehand. Once started it will come right off. The end with the seals extends 1-1/4 inches into the manifold.

Assume you've correctly identified the "bad" one by chasing the hose runs? If the 2 middle ones are smaller (serve the fronts). You just need to trace which is Right vs Left.

62 Morgan, thanks for the reply! So I presume you are saying that, yes, it unscrews?

Don't know that it is bad, but here is my testing so far:

It has juice as it heats up the same as the other 3 when in the active store mode.

I finally was able to break the emergency release valve tee handle free, now it just turns hard, 2 others are still frozen. (8 years old) Opening the valve doesn't let it retract, even with a floor jack assist.

With the hose off, I removed the fluid restrictor, it was clean, and I pushed the cylinder up the last 3 inches, wasting the fluid, thinking maybe there was some gunk getting stuck in the fluid restrictor.

The rear jack it is tied to sticks hard consistently with 3 inches to go (even a floor jack won't budge it), but when I remove the hose at the control block, it will retract easily with a little help, but still not with the springs (I do have the new tapered springs on that one problem cylinder).

With a 12" ground straightedge, it looks as straight as the cylinders that work fine.

Both rear cylinders just went back to HWH for a rebuild, the other one had a leak.

Any ideas?

If the solenoid is warm after the system has been in the store mode for a minute or two, it is not burned out. Don't leave the jacks in the store mode too long or you very well may burn out the solenoid.

HWH has a lot of technical info on their web site. Click the blue bar on the left for Customer Support and Technical, click Installation and Technical Information, and then click on Service Manuals. There are also wiring diagrams, flow charts and other info available. The service manuals will have troubleshooting guides for your particular system. There are also identification guides if you are not sure what system you have.

If all else fails, call or email HWH. That info is on the web site as well.
