Hello All,

Well we attended the FMCA Northeast Rally in Essex Junction, VT this weekend. It was great fun...but I will post more on that later. I just wanted to rejoice that hubby finally broke down and let me drive our new to us RV. His back was acting up, so he asked me to drive home. I had a ball!!!! I drove our old 38 foot Newmar Gasser about 25 percent of the time, but hubby seemed reluctant to let go of the wheel on the new diesel. After about 15 minutes of nerves and looking from mirror to mirror...I finally relaxed and got into the groove. WOW...the diesel rides so much smoother that the gasser and I no longer have to get out and do the Fred Flinstone dance to get it up hills...

I only had one oh-oh moment... They are doing repaving and road work on Route 89 in Vermont and there was one section that was reduced to less than on lane and a few cones were really intruding into the only open lane. The tractor trailer in front of me squashed and I squashed on. I was terrified, but hubby re-assured me, better to hit a small orange cone than the guard rail on the other side...All in all...I really felt good driving it and I would highly recommend all wives and significant others to try taking the wheel if you do not already drive the rig.

I must somehow send DW to "Driver's School", goodness what a relief it would be to sometimes take a break but stay on the road.....

I'd love to to get my wife to attend a driving school and learn to drive our coach. She refuses.

All wives need to know how to drive the rig - you never know when there will be a need...

Heck, one less orange cone in the world isn't going to be noticed. Besides, a PRO driver whacked one, too.

I've gotten so accustomed to DW driving, I curl up on the jackknife sofa bed, loosely strap the belt around me and sleep.

Congrats for stepping up, double congrats for being so tickled about it

Of course, there is a downside: she's planning on loading the RV with her girlfriends and trekking off without me...

I drive whenever DH asks me to. Took a course at the FMA Rally last summer & learned how to back up using only my mirrors (no camera watching was allowed). I'm still a bit of a white-knuckle when it comes to construction zones, but other than that, I'm happy to take the wheel to give him a break when he needs one. Plus, like Alan stated, you never know when you might HAVE to drive.
