I need advice on my 1973 Winnebago Chieftan,Please

Hello fellow RV'ers, I do not have the manuel for my RV. I desperately need to find out what type of transmission fluid I need and where it goes. I also need to know what type of steering fluid and where that goes.(I bet some people could tell me where to go) I was told by the previous owner it has a chevy 454 engine, but on the specs in the brochure it says it comes with a 265 horsepower, V-8, 413 cubic inch engine( I assume Dodge 'cause that's who made the chassis). Automatic transmission, 3 speeds. Power brakes, power steering. She's a 1973 Winnebago Cheiftan, I want to find out eveything I can about her, and I was hoping some kind person would help me out.

Thank you for your time

If you have the 413 Dodge engine you most likely have the A727 transmission which used type "A" transmission fluid.

Not sure it's still available these days, so you might want to check with a transmission repair shop that repairs older transmissions and perhaps they can help.

You could also google "type A transmission fluid or equivalent" and see what you get.

In it's day that was a good engine and drive train for heavy duty work.

Good luck

Per the Dodge MH Service manual, use DEXRON type transmission fluid.

Regular Power steering fluid.

Get yourself a copy of the Dodge MH Service and Parts manuals. They will save a you a lot of headaches. Cheapest place to get a PDF copy is the web store at Classic Winnebagos & Vintage RVs!. You do have to join the site to get the purchase items from the store. WHen searching for chassis parts get the Dodge P/N then cross-ref to aftermarket P/N.

That 413 became the 383, that info comes in handy when looking for parts for the engine, and a clueless counter person.
