I thought this was weird, now I'm know it is

For background, I have only had this coach out once, so I'm just getting around to noticing little things that don't seem right.

I had an issue last weekend with one of the slide toppers retracting properly. When I got home I looked at all of them and saw this on the one with the problem:

That bumper is not supposed to be in that position. All of the others are pointing at about 2 o'clock.

Can I simply unscrew the bumper and reposition it? That thing being out of position is putting a strain on things that I'd rather not have strained.

I'm pretty sure you can. I replaced the A&E awning on my Encore this summer and I just removed the anti-billowing device with no issues. Here's a link to the company's installation instructions that I purchased my awning from. You would only be concerned with step 6 which refers to the anti-billow device since you're not actually replacing the awning. Just be careful you don't undo the screws on the awning roller since it is spring loaded and under a lot of tension.. By the way if you ever have to replace your awning I would recommend this company Tough Top Awnings.

It's not only creating a strain where you don't want it, it also isn't positioned properly to stop the billowing.

Yes, you can reposition it with no problem, I had to do the same thing when we replaced our fabric, it was a slightly different size.

The directions from A&E say that the stick up bar is supposed to be at 12:00 when retracted. There is nothing in the end of the tube to worry about so you can simply remove 2 or 3 screws, redrill and screw them back in the proper position. This will help keep the topper from billowing in the wind as you drive.

It took me longer to get the ladder out than it did to fix this. The bumper was on backwards. I didn't even have to drill new holes. Next on my list is a new topper for this slide. This one is done.
