Install a 120V Ceiling Fan?????
OK....I don't "do" electricity so need advice.
I found the perfect small ceiling fan for our bedroom at Lowes. Is it possible to replace our ceiling light in the bedroom with a regular household fan? Does new wiring have to be run so it gets it's power like the microwave does?
Thanks!

Wouls suspect that your light is a 12 volt DC current and even if it is 120VAC unit that the wiring might be to small for fan current load

Your lights are 12v, not residential 120v. But you can get 12v ceiling fans.
RVUpgradeStore - 12 Volt Ceiling Fan
Would still have to wire in the switch on that model, though.

As already mentioned, yes, you would have to rewire for a 120v fan. Don't try to use the wires from your 12v light fixture.
I don't recall hearing of anyone installing a 120v fan in a coach.

Try this: 12V Remote Ceiling Fan Nickel/Oak
This one operates with a romote, no wall switch required. Easy replacement for your existing ceiling light.

12V wiring is normally heavier than 110V for the same unit. After all. if a fan is 120 watts draw, that would be 1 amp on 120V or ~ 10 amps for a 12 volt source.

Thanks for all the advice. I was pretty sure the answer was no on 120v but hoped for a solution. Guess it will be plan "B" of cutting down & reshaping the blades on one of the 12v fans. Thanks again.

It is very difficult to get the fan blades in proper balance if you cut them down. It can be done, but it's painstaking work. One trick is to glue pennies on the blades with double-sided tape to experiment to find the right balance. Once you find where the imbalance is, you can correct further or just use permanent glue on the penny(s).

Does anyone know of a small (29-30") 12V Fan?

Type "12 volt ceiling fans" into your browser window and you will get many leads to buying a ceiling fan.

Thanks Allen. Have done the googling on 30" 12 V ceiling fans, but I can only come up with 36" and 42". Will keep trying, of course.

Most RV manufacturer's install wiring that will easily handle a 12-Volt DC ceiling fan's current requirements. If you look at the spec's on these fan's they draw less then 2-Amps at their highest rating. The lowest rating on the DC wiring installed in RV's is probably in the 5-amp or higher range. So you won't have a problem powering one of these 12-volt fans from your wiring to a ceiling light. I did it on two other motorhomes I owned and never had a problem.

i installed a remote control backwoods solar 40'' ceiling fan in my bedroom in 2007. it works well with the slide in or out, the wall cabinets open or closed. i used the bedroom ceiling light location. i cut out a circular plate from an old license plate to mount the fan to and mounted the plate to the ceiling with about 9 long screws. i drilled a 1/2'' hole in the center of the plate for the wiring.
