My inner duals have metal stems, plus solid metal extensions. (I'm not sure quite what you mean by the "metal valve stem and rubber hose" description). My wheels are Accuride with round holes, and I have used the Alcoa stabilizer grommets since the rig was new. My extensions put the valve cap barely beyond the grommet. When I put the TST sensors on, they sit within the hole in the wheel. The sensors are too far into the hole in the wheel to fit outside the rubber grommet, so rather than getting longer extensions I cut the center of the grommet to enlarge it to fit the body of the sensor. Because the TST sensors are installed with a special wrench, I have to install the sensor first, then push the stabilizer grommet in around it. If my extensions were just a little longer, I could have just installed the sensor on top of the grommet. You can see pics of my setup before the TPMS, and then after, on my web site at
