Installing a Tire Monitor With a Stabilizer Grommet

I can't remember if it was on this site or not but I have seen where some one has pictures on installing a tire monitor by cutting the center of a Stabilizer Gromment out so the monitor would fit in it better. We have Alcoa Wheels, and on the back there is a Extension Stabilizeer Grommet where the valve stem comes thru. The inner dually has a metal vavle stem and a rubber hose with the valve stem coming thru this grommet, My question is has or does any one have this sit up and is it working OK by just screwing the sensor on the valve at the end of the Gromment??

Sonny, Paul Rider aka afchap, is on this site quite frequently and I believe his set-up was what you described at least the stabilizer grommet. Paul is a very thorough individual and I would not be surprised if he has pictures. He is a full timer so you may need a little patience in catching him. My inner duals have metal stems, plus solid metal extensions. (I'm not sure quite what you mean by the "metal valve stem and rubber hose" description). My wheels are Accuride with round holes, and I have used the Alcoa stabilizer grommets since the rig was new. My extensions put the valve cap barely beyond the grommet. When I put the TST sensors on, they sit within the hole in the wheel. The sensors are too far into the hole in the wheel to fit outside the rubber grommet, so rather than getting longer extensions I cut the center of the grommet to enlarge it to fit the body of the sensor. Because the TST sensors are installed with a special wrench, I have to install the sensor first, then push the stabilizer grommet in around it. If my extensions were just a little longer, I could have just installed the sensor on top of the grommet.
