What is the preferred method for installing the Ultraguard flaps. On my unit it looks like I can use either the chassis frame or the frame for the hitch as the mounting location. Any reason to chose one over the other?

Also, what are the advantages or disadvantages of just bolting the steel mounting brace that holds the mudflap directly to the frame vs. an approach that seems popular which is to mount eye bolts on the frame and the mudflap brace and connect them with a chain link so that the flap has the ability to swing slightly.

On a gas chassis I think the fixed installation would be fine. You may want to consider placement so if the coach bottoms out it does not pinch the flap to the ground.

If I could add that ours is bolted to the frame behind the rear duals. Whoever did the original install used regular bolts which came loose or broke. Fortunately, we caught this before the guard came loose and replaced all bolts with Grade 8 and locknuts.

Hi. On my privious rig ('07 FW Southwind 37C W-24 chassis)I mounted the Ultra-Guard using the angle iron, to the frame, and then hung the flap from the angle iron w/ a set of turnbuckles for adjustability issues, and the fact it could "drag" a little better over bumps and rain gutters. Never a problem in the year and 1/2 we owned it. Robbie

Megsfolks.......I made one for my Terra out of a couple of large truck mudflaps and some angle iron. I then put the 18" chrome plates along the bottom of both sides.

I hung mine with the turnbuckles so it could move. You also want to mount it so that the two mounting points on the mudflap are a little wider than the frame. This keeps it from rocking side to side and it will self center.
