Insurance Good Sam vs Allstate

We are picking up our new to us motor home (Tiffin RED 34) next week. Thanks to a great number of folks on this board we have great info for making the jump. I expect I will have a few questions and stories shortly.

We are looking into a number of matters, but our first and foremost action item is insurance. I have gone out and run a number of locations. My stick house and all other matters are handled by my Allstate agent including blanket liability etc. I requested a quote from him. The odd thing is his quote was about 600 dollars a year and GMAC was 1300. Now I know there can be some differences. We have the same liability coverage. The only thing I figure is GMAC has a full replacement policy. Allstate says they will find a similar one and provide that payment of full loss. (depreciated value I assume). Not sure I need full replacement but considering it.

I am a believer in you get what you pay for. So I figure Allstate may not include something I may want and I also Figure GMAC may be a bit high.

Policies have 1k deductible, 250/500 liability.

Allstate also offered their roadside for 99 a year. I know most use Coachnet or Good Sams. Would like your opinion on their roadside if anyone has any experience.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I have had Good Sam (GMAC), for my over-all, RV insurance, for about two years now and have been satisfied with them. My coverages, about $1500 a year, actually went down $75, even after a claim, covering a blow-out and body damage as a result of the blow-out. I also have GS, as my emergency provider. Had to call them twice (once for water in the fuel and again, for the blow-out). They were right there for me. They (the service co.) took my damaged tire off the inside dual and put my unmounted spare on, with no additional charges to me. I have no experience with Coach-Net, but I hear that other RV'ers like them alot.

From RV travel news letter: RV Travel Newsletter: December 29-January 4. Issue 566 | RV Travel
Got Good Sam Road Assistance? Then know your service will continue to be supported by Allstate Roadside Services under a renewed agreement between Good Sam Enterprises and the Allstate through 2019. The collective claims 30,000 tow and service providers nationwide.

I have had Allstate RV Road Help for 18 years. Pay $109 a year now. That comes with a free KOA 10% discount card. Have used them for tire blow outs, lock out, tow on pick up, dead battery, etc. Very happy so far with their service.

I don't have their vehicle insurance because they don't have Full Time. I do have GMAC but not the full replacement. Pay $1,100 year.
Check on the full replacement, may only be good on new for 5 years.

We have had Good Sam's in the past, then Allstate, and now we are with Blue Sky. We have not had a claim with any of them so can't comment on that. Just that Blue Sky gave us the best coverage for the money.

We just got a quote from state farm where we have all our other policies, it was over the phone so not exact but was like 327 every 6 months, so about the same as yours

That amount of difference makes me suspicious too. So does $600 for liability/collision/comp on a brand new motorhome, but if you have blanket liability coverage thru them, that may explain the difference. Did the agent provide a breakdown of the coverages and amounts? If not, ask for it.

I suggest you get a few more quotes - try National Interstate, maybe contact the Gilbert Agency (Orlando RV specialists), try Progressive, The Hartford, etc.

Two words - National Interstate. I'm yet to find anybody that beats their coverage / price combination. I'm with USAA for all my other insurance but their agent, Progressive was three times as expensive as National. I compare Good Sam, Progressive and GMAC every year. I usually get a $50 gift card for the effort but they are all always way more expensive than National Interstate. Give them a call.
