Just a note on termnoilogy.
Don't know enough about your RV to be sure; if you even have an inverter ; a lot depends on the year and model .
But an inverter , takes 12 volt power from the batteries and produces 120 volt current . A converter / charger takes 120 volt , and runs the lights and other 12v systems and charges the batteries.
Some RVs the two ; inverter & converter/charger; are separate units, other RVs the 3 functions are all in the one box, and an internal logic board switches between functions, when 120 volt external power is supplied..

When I had the RV plugged into electric the other day and used an amp meter to see what was going on; every time we turned a interior light on we showed another 1 or 2 amps on the meter.

Question: So, do all these RV lights use 12v from the batteries unless generator or power line is plugged in??? How is that controlled? Do I need a DC/AC LED replacement bulb or are these 12v I'm seeing what I should be looking for?

Thanks
Whatever bulbs you decide on make sure they will operate in the 11 - 14 volt range. Some of the cheaper ones will only operate on 12 volts period. They will not come on if the voltage varies slightly below the 12 volt threshold and will either not work or quickly burn out if the voltage is slightly above 12 volts.

I found some BA15S (#1156) which is a common bulb in automotive and older RV's. These are suppose to be 272-330 lumens.

Superwhite 68-SMD @ $3.59 / each.

Super White High Power 1156 BA15S RV Camper Backup Reverse 68-SMD LED Light bulb

10x $9.98 50% off

Possibly these could work. These are suppose to be 325 lumens. Shows to be 13 SMD (generally the higher number of SMD's usually means better output)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10x-Ba15s-11...JX0Ec2&vxp=mtr

I found this type of bulb is harder to find in LED with enough lumens. Some of the less expensive ones in bulk (10x and 20x) especially if they don't have the # of lumens, are too dim for RV lighting.

Wrote to the seller about a BA15S (#1156) bulb

The seller provided a link to a 33-SMD which is suppose to be brighter than the 13-SMD. Description shows 858 Lumens.

I have no idea of the quality. Price is ~$1.64 each

If the bulbs started to burn out because of 12 volt fluctuation. I would just return them having them pay for return shipping.

12 volt bulbs rated for automotive and RV use need to have some sort of voltage tolerance. such as e.g. ~10 to ~14.5 volts ... normal fluctuation found in auto mobiles, boats, RV, etc. Most chargers and alternators try to maintain 12 volts but often go to ~14.5 and possibly higher voltages. (The battery normally buffers voltage fluctuation but entire 12 volt power systems normally fluctuate varying degrees and potentially can be fed directly by an alternator, charger, solar panels, solar controllers, etc.). Bulbs require some sort of tolerance for both voltage and current.

10x Super Bright 6.6w White 1156 RV Trailer 33-SMD LED 1141 Interior Light Bulbs ($16.39 for 10)

3.LED Color: PURE WHITE (6000K~6500K)
4.LED Type: Latest 2835 SMD LED, each LED bulb has 33 high quality SMD in total

The eBay seller groupbuy from the previous post links, responded to a question about his LEDs and voltage variation.

He said that all of his LED's work well between 12~13.5 volts, however when above 14 volts for 2 hours will easily burn out.

Ok, I made my purchase. I bought the M4 LED's. They are the "1156-10-5630-NW Small Bulb Head with BA15s Base 1003/63 Natural White".

I got ten at $10.99 each, then got 10% discount and free shipping.

I could see a "white/blue" color difference initially over the originals incandescents but got used to that over the weekend. I like them and i'm happy with the AMP savings...

I still have a few other light fixtures to go, so I may try something cheaper with them...

Thanks

Tonight I compared the brightness of the old style bulbs to the new M4 LED's. They are nearly identical as far as I can tell... The Natural Light of the M4 LED's that I purchased are noticeably "whiter", but other than that, no real difference... When comparing the two virtually side by side, I like the new LED's better.
