Is the Pilot/Flying J fuel card worth having?

I'm a Good Sams member and I see there is a fuel discount ($.08/gal) for getting/using a Pilot-Flying J charge card. I would be getting Diesel fuel only.

Is this "charge card" worth having?

Is there an interest rate charged on the purchases (I would setup card for automatic bank withdrawal/payments)?

Are there any catches or things to watch out for?

Thanks

I have had one for many years, the advantage is a large fuel area, easy in and out. The bad news is that the fuel prices are higher than WAWA etc.... even with the discount.

Bill is emailed monthly and paid in full when bill is received.

I will continue holding onto this card because it does come in handy at times.

Agree with above, easy in and easy out but you pay (usually) more. No stopping at 75 or 100 with other cards and ez pay on monthly statement...

They don't charge any interest. The truck stops cost more to fuel but you are always getting fresh fuel. When we had a gas rig I figured 45 minutes to an hour to fuel at the RV pumps. Now I use the truck pumps and figure on 15 minutes, just put the card in pump the fuel and you're gone. Just that convenience is worth it!

We use one, they will auto debit your checking account at the end of the month. Great communication with heads up when they will be deducting the money by email. Bad, FJ is always high in the diesel price saving the .08 helps but, does not match what other smaller stations would charge. Great convenience though, pulling in the truck side filling up in a few minutes. You will also get half off on dump $5 vs $10 and discount on propane on the RV side

Biggest advantage is not having to go inside to pre-pay. Very convenient if you need a lot of fuel. I know the prices are higher but I know the fuel is fresh.
I also find the RV friendly.

Yes, it is worth it for all the reasons mentioned. Almost all my stops are at pilots or flying J.

You know your Good Sam cards gets you a 5 cent discount? And substitute "Diesel" for "Fuel" in the above comments because gas is usually as competitive as any place close.

Here is how I see it...

The GS Save and Swipe card gets me 5 cents off the credit price. My Sams Club gets me 5% off the price after I use the GS card.

If diesel is $3.00/gal that puts it at $2.95 with the GS card. Then I take off 5% of $2.95 saves me 14.75 cents for a total of 19.75 Cents.

HMMMM...

You be the judge.

Caveat...I know I don't get the money back from Sams Club until the end of the year.

I would keep and use mine even without the discount just for the pump start and pay at the pump convienence. No interest paid. It’s truly a charge card not a credit card. Pay off each month.

Thanks. I'm going to apply for one.

At least I know my rig will fit into a Pilot/Flying J station. That is not always the case with the smaller-cheaper stations.
