We think we've got the coach figured out - a 42' Camelot. However, the real stumper is kayak storage (17 footers). We'll carry them on the Jeep while traveling, but when gone for a week or more backpacking we want to cable them to racks on the roof over the rear air conditioner rather than stacking them on the ground. The mid section will have two or three solar panels - I think that's where they'll go.

The DW says put them in the coach through the front door! Surely someone out there has a better idea which won't damage the roof.

We want to get a canoe. Jeep is the only place we can think of to transport it, makes it aerodynamic!! (Hey, that worked when we lived in an apartment... kept our 13 ft canoe "stored" on top of my crappy mustang). Only alternative to off Jeep storage that I can come up with is to make a knock-down rack (out of lightweight pipes like electrical conduit) and chain the things to a picnic table or something.

We carry a 17' tandem on the Jeep, I use a heavy duty vinyl covered steel cable around the seat brackets and under the cross bar. Arranged so the lock is in the kayak so as not to scratch the car. I can't believe you're considering lifting 2 kayaks to the top of the coach. Better man than I.

I use two locking cables for each kayak when just using the Jeep but don't want to leave them on when in the moubtains with the vehicle not near anyone. Better left in the park.

The kayaks are fiberglass - 55 lbs or less. No sweat to get them up.
