Kwikee Entry Step Not Working
I have a Kwikee 42 Series Step that is blowing the 20 amp fuse in the rear run box of my 2007 HR Navigator. I tried a new fuse which immediately failed.
While we were driving yesterday, we heard a faint audible alarm coming from the step area. It stopped before we could pull into a rest area. When I opened the door at the rest area, the step did not extend.
It is storming in Minnesota right now so it is not the best weather to crawl around under the motorhome. I'll probably wait to try to fix it when I get home later this week. What am I looking for? Loose wire making a connection to the ground? Control Unit failure? Any thoughts or direction is appreciated.

Yep, sounds like a short to me. Unplug the 4 pin connector from the rv to the step unit and see if it still blows. If the fuse does not blow, unplug the step motor and plug back in the 4 pin connector. This should isolate the problem.

If your series 42 is like mine you'll have to remove the cover plate to expose the motor and big gears. I would look for the ground on the frame and remove and clean where it contacts. Then try it. A bad ground increases the current draw which could blow the fuse.

Solved: Fixed it.

Thanks for the info on how to isolated the problem. I followed those steps and found a pinched wire. $0.00 spent. That doesn't happen often!!!

Well maybe not $0.00 spent ; there's the electrical tape , the zip ties , to secure the wiring , new fuses, and the beer after the repair.
OK, ok, maybe you'd have had the beer anyway.

I did similar - put my coffee cup on the steps and when I turned around, the steps were retracting and my cup was jamming them.. (not used to new fangled steps that disappear. :-)
I fought the impulse to reach in with my hand and grab the cup, and instead opened the door to get the step to come back down.
Fortunately, nothing bent or broke, but I did climb under there to see how they worked.
