Kwikee motor assembly gears...

OH Winnebago Vectra (93') here....

Hello; We bought this motor home a few years ago and have done lots of great traveling, but not without the "unexpected many repairs". We remain hopefull, but have come short of buying a new one a few times.

Our new problem is the Kwikee motor assembly. The gears are chewed up in it. I am trying to find out if I should put a new control box on with it? I have done most of my own repairs, but want to make sure exactly what it needs.

........any help will be greatly appreciated and is the best place to purchase the part on here?

Most of the time the gears get damage due to lack of lube on the step hinges. They need to be lubricated a couple of time a year because they are exposed to the ellements. As the resistance increases the gears are overloaded and can fail.

Do You mean the Stair Gears or are You talking about the Lexan Plastic gears in the Transmission?
FYI The Transmission is a Window Lift Transmission and has been used in Many Ford and GM Cars and Trucks over the Years. They are available at NAPA or Most Wrecking Yards. Easy enough to transfer the Internal Parts from One Unit to another!
Use Lots of grease!

Here are some possible sources for inexpensive replacements I have saved from various threads over the years.

" 1) AM Equipment 402 E. Hazel St Jefferson, OR 97352, (541) 327-1546 the motor is $29 plus $7 shipping.

2) www.rvdealership.com that sells a repair parts kit made specifically for these units - includes gears.

3) Replacement step motor at AutoZone. It's a Siemens "Window Lift Motor", part number WL43003.

4) Autozone. The brand is "Siemens" The ID tag lists the following numbers:
59720-20, 121899

5) A 1986-1995 Ford Taurus left front window lift motor matched my motor. NAPA part # BK655-1395 $63.99

I ordered my motor from Auto-Zone Manufactured by Dorman part# 742-206. This has a lifetime Warranty and was $49.99. "

Also these guys rebuild the circuit boards: HERE

If it's the gears inside the drive motor that are stripped, most of the steps use motors from power windows. Replacement motors are available from most auto parts stores. Some auto parts also sell gear kits very inexpensively, so you don't have to replace the whole motor. Just drop the new gears in, apply lube (usually supplied in the kit), put everything back together and you're good to go.

Helped a friend replace the gears in his step. He got the gears from Walt's RV Supplies in Rialto, Ca. These were the gears in the step gear box and not the motor.
