Kwikee Step Motor Replacment
I need to replace the Kwikee motor on my 32 Steps. Here's the problem, my steps are NOT extended. I can barely get a finger on the cotter key holding the arm mechanism to the motor. Is there a way to unlock this mechanism so my steps can swing out so I can access the motor. Any other advice? I have looked at all the step replacment threads and have not found a solution. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Can you reach the bolts to unbolt the motor from the gear box?

I just went through this....My coach has a stainless trim under the door opening, that "hides" the steps when retracted. I took this plate off and then was able to remove the linkage pin.
Your design may be different...
Only other way is to get a long pair of needle nose pliers and try to remove cotter pin from back side of steps.

I did this a few months ago as well. For me, I was able to get to the step motor's three bolts holding it in place and loosen them sufficiently to allow the gear to disengage and lower the step.

There's enough room to get the cotter pin out with needle nose pliers. You then have to tap the clevis pin to one side. You then have to put the needle nose behind the head of the clevis pin to finish tapping it out. I always unplug the motor before I start.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to try one more time to get the cotter key out. Then will see if I can unbolt the motor. The first step 32 servies seems to cover all these spots.

Wow that makes it really tough. With out seeing what you are actually dealing with it is hard to offer any more help. We are travelling and I saw one this morning where the step mechanism was totally hidden I thought it may me similar to yours.

If it is a controller or door switch issue, the motor may run if you apply power to it. That can be done by pulling the plug apart on the wires feeding the step motor. Then feed 12 volt directly to step motor to power the steps down.
Note: Only do this if you are comfortable "electrically" with the job, and do not lay under steps when applying power. All the best.

I replaced my motor several months ago and what really helped the most was a YouTube video. I checked a few minutes ago searching "Kwikee Step Motor" on YouTube there was over seven pages with 20 videos on each. I was going to take the coach to the dealer when a friend suggested to check YouTube and it was really simple so I ordered the motor on Amazon and did it myself. I didn't suggest a specific video as I don't know what model steps you have but searching YouTube you might find someone replacing the motor on your model coach.

After trying the usual steps, I was able to get a socket on the nuts that hold the motor and plate to the steps on my brother in laws. The whole motor and transmission came down so that I could remove the pin. Then it was an easy replacement.
