Mine is always on. The only real downside is that if you lose shore power and don't notice it, you continue to run on inverter power until the batteries get low. On some coaches you notice right away because some circuits are not powered via inverter, but on mine everything except the roof a/c continues to work normally and its easy to miss when power goes out. The transfer to inverter is so fast my computer doesn't even blink.

Steve, The answer is, it depends. If your charging system is capable of keeping ahead of the drain on the battery, then yes you can. If not, you will wind up with dead or ruined batteries due to the charger not being able to keep up. Chuck

My thoughts are it will depend on what it powers. If I have a residential fridge I would leave it on in case of a power loss while you are away from the camp site. Other wise turn it off until needed.

Correct - it depends... IF you lose shore power, know that the inverter itself takes battery power to run, so if it doesn't have to power anything downstream, like our residential fridge that I turn off when in storage, I turn the inverter off too.

Thanks. I'll continue to leave it on "just in case".

If I turn my inverter on while connected to shore power, the inverter light flashes. When I unplug the shore power the light is steady. I'm thinking that even though the switch is on that the inverter is not really active until I unplug the shore power.
The inverter is controlled by the Trace RC7GS control panel. What say ye techs?

Depends. What inverter and how it it configured? And what does it power when on shore power. Mine powers up most everything but has a passthrough so is automatically disconnected when on shore power. So mine is always left turned on.

Joe, You need to look at the documentation for your inverter. Flashing lights mean different things and even the number of flashes have meaning. Chuck

The Inverter On/off button turns the invert on and off. When it is in the on
position the green Inverter light will be on steady unless you have shore or
generator power and then it will be flashing. This means the inverter is ready
to switch on within a fraction of a second, if shore or generator power is lost.
The light will be off if the inverter function is not required.

Thanks Don! I thought it must work like that!
