Leveling jacks question
If the site is level, is it necessary or recommended to deploy the jacks anyway?

That would be a personal choice. If someone gets up at night to go bathroom the whole coach will rock side to side. I always set my because to make sure the Norcold is level and coach does not rock from people walking or wind blowing.

Our DSDP owners manual says the jacks MUST be down before deploying the slides, so we do.

If you have a super slide and only on one side, extending without leveling may put you off level, and you have rocking with any movement.

Do you have slides? If so, then follow your manufacturer's recommendation. For our Bounder, it's just as Mr. D said...jacks down before extending slides.

We always put our jacks down just for the stabilization, and it is highly recommended to have them down when you put the slides out, you really don't want the MH rocking with the slides out. The only time we don't put the jacks down is when we are in a Walmart/Casino type parking lot where they really don't want you putting the jacks down and damaging their asphalt. In that situation we only put out our bedroom slide which is our smallest slide.

In addition to what has been posted, before extending/retracting slides, it is important for the coach frame to be flat and level. When parked it is difficult for an owner to determine this. Always follow the manufacturers instructions. If the instructions are not available, one can not go wrong by having the jacks down and the coach level before extending/retracting the slides.

How about in a level storage site? My husband doesn't use the jacks, but today the RV seemed pretty darn low with the airbags deployed. Is that ok as well? I would think the jacks would be standard, but we rarely see RVs with the jacks down in storage???

We have done both. Our coach says to level the coach prior to extending the slides.
Most of the time we level the coach on site using the jacks, then extend the slides.
Walmarts do not like the damage extending the jack can cause. I level the coach by finding the high or low spots on the parking lot. The low spot can always be found by looking for the storm downdrain grates. I turn the leveling system on and the lights will tell me which side or end is low. I manoever over the storm drain or high spot until the leveling system indicates we are level.
Then the slides come out as necessary.

Are you asking about storage. You don't need to put the jacks down when in storage mode, but I just wouldn't put the slides out. If you need the slides open for any reason I would put the jacks down, put the slide(s) out, and then once the slides are retracted you can also retract the jacks. There is really no need to have the jacks down when in storage.

For me, if the coach is in storage, consider jacks up, slides in and air dumped. The coach will be sitting on the chassis. This is a good solid platform for storage.

Entegra coach we don't extend jacks til the slides are out and we pull jacks before bringing slides in. So this would and is no issue in a entegra coach. Just Sayinn

I hope you are always on a fairly level spot before you extend slides. Off level very much and you will have the slide in a bind and can cause expensive damage.
