Anyone have any creative ideas how to put up lights with an automatic awning? I know you can disable the automatic retract in high wind, but I would like to read any creative ways to hang lights outside the motorhome.

Thanks,
Steve

This has been discussed before- look up the posts on "rope lights". But to make a long story short the best way to do it in my opinion is to get a rope light and mounting tracks which are available at Home Depot and probably Menards and Lowes also. Mount the tracks and rope light onto the side of your rv below the awning and plug it in. The advantage of doing it this way is you don't have to disable your auto retract feature of the awning and you can use the light with the awning extended or not.
Good luck and enjoy the light!

Steve, We ordered our coach without the automatic awning. The coach we test drove at the dealership had an automatic awning. I was concerned about lights as well. But the deciding factor in me ordering with the manual awning was not being able to tip the awning down when it rains or lower to keep the rising or setting sun off of the patio. We also experienced difficulty in retracting the awning in the slight breeze. It took several attempts for it to come in.

I wish you well.

Bobby C is correct about some electric awnings not being adjustable to keep out the sun or to let rain run off. Ours is not adjustable and I wish it were even though one side arm is spring loaded to allow rain to runoff when the weight of the water collected gets to be enough to push the arm down. However they do make electric awnings now that are adjustable and that is what I would order if I were to do that today. As for the auto retract feature I agree that it doesn't always work as promoted, but I've always rolled our awning up anyway when we were not going to be at the camper and it is a lot easier to do that now with the electric than it ever was with the manual. In fact the electric awning comes with a remote and when at the campground and the wind picks up I get a kick out of other's reactions when they get up and scurry off to roll up their awnings and I just stay seated and use the remote. I get a lot of "eye rolling" looks coming my way in those situations.
