You guys are all fabulous. Dennis, my warmest thanks for the pictures. The last couple nailed it for me. Clearly, I won't have to dismantle anything and can just do the replacement. If it stays clear here in N.Cal I won't have to use a tarp to avoid laying the mud. As soon as the part arrives I'm all over it.

My rig is an 07 and hasn't seen any salt. It seems to be holding up much better than some of the steps you guys have shown here. I wonder if there is a quality problem with some batches of paint in the step production process? Or, whether some parts of the country just have more acid, alkali or whatever else eats paint.

Anyway fun and instructive to see what you all have done with your steps. I won't hesitate to take on a full rebuild when necessary thanks to all the info in this thread.

Well I can say that on the Itasca's the steps are wired so that if I put it in drive the steps will retract, no matter what position I have the switch in as long as the door is shut.

Thanks for the very informative post and for your time in doing so. Great job. Too bad they don't take the time to do such quality work at the Lippert factory. I have a one year old vehicle and the Lippert step is leaking. Any suggestions?

Exactly what is leaking from your steps?

oops, don't know what happened to my previous reply. However, thanks for your query about my "leaking" steps. I think I made a mistake. I called Lippert and they informed me that it's not possible for the steps to leak and that it might be coming from another source. Upon further inspection I think that somebody previously lubricated the steps and in the hot sun it seems the lubrication melted and dripped onto the steps and driveway. I cleaned it up and things seem to be back to normal.
