Lots of water inside rolled up awning

Hi,

I have a 20 foot Dometic 9100 power awning with the metal WeatherShield and when I open it a good quart of water gushes out if it has rained recently.

There is a Camping World comedy of errors story behind it all and I don't have the energy to relive it but they were the ones to install it. Brand new material reusing my metal weathershield.

I'm fairly new this this coach but I don't think I've ever had water come out if I rolled it up dry.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look once I get time to climb up on the roof? What could they have possible done to cause this?

Thanks
Ben

Hello Mr. Ben I am fairly new to Rving. I have a new coach that I bought it is a 30ft class C. I noticed when I roll out the awning if I continue pressing the button it will roll up the opposite way. Now I notice water getting into the awning as well. When it was rolled up I had a look from a side view and notice when I rolled it up the flange opened and was letting water run off the roof into The awning. Therefore I had to let it back out and roll it back up the opposite way so when it meets the roof water from the roof cannot roll into it but roll over it.

My Carefree power awning has done the same since new. I presume rain gets in the open ends of the metal wrap. Most of the water in mine will pour out of a u-shaped channel in the roller tube just as it is fully extended.

I believe mine would roll up backwards to the point where the roller tube hit the metal shield, but not beyond that point w/o damage ..not something I would try!

In my view, that's just one of the joys of having an awning. Be it rain getting in from the ends or condensation, I find water all the time. Requires forethought on where I position myself when opening the thing. Same with the slideout topper which can hold quite a volume of water after a rain storm.

Wink

I visit our C in the nearby storage yard about once a week and always roll out the power awning just for exercise and to give it a chance to dry out. We are in the middle of the Tucson Monsoon and heavy rain is a frequent event. It only takes about 15 minutes to dry out and roll up and I'm usually puttering around the rig for at least that long.

Same here. I make sure mine is dried out before I roll it up, a couple of months later I unrolled it and had water all over me. Now I just make sure to unroll it every once in awhile (I park under trees a lot so I don't always use it) and stand back when I unroll it.
