Thanks everyone. Bob, it's a 2004 Pace Arrow 37-C. What ship were you on? I served on the USS Ranger CVA-61.

I served on two. The first was the USS Ticonderoga CVA-14, this was for two years and then after a 3-month aviation fuel technical school I was restationed aboard the USS Bennington CVS-20. It was just coming out of the ship yard after being refitted from it's CVA-20 Attack status to it's Anti-submarine status. I was pretty lucky, I went in just after the Korean Conflict and got out just as Vietnam first started. Actually in late 1961 we were in Manila and were sent off the coast of Vietnam where we launched a show of force squadron.

Every time I see one of these threads, I like to throw in my experience with the LP detector going off all the time while I was driving down the road. And I've never heard of anyone else with this particular cause.
After a lot of snooping around, I started to replace the regulator out by the propane tank and found the two screws holding down the wire connectors which go to the inside unit loose as a goose. Tightened those puppies up (without replacing the regulator) and haven't had a problem since. And since I had already purchased it, I did replace the inside unit since the old one was way past due.

Bob I was ships company (Machinist Mate) 61-64. I got off and out as she was leaving for Vietnam. I have done the soap and water bit and got a sniffer this week so will try that. If I don't find anything I will replace the detector. It sounds like they go bad over time, I was not aware of that.

CVA-64!! I owned 3 older rigs that didn't have the LPG detector and never worried about it. Bought a Minney-Winney new in 1994 and discovered if the rig was not used for a couple of weeks the hardwired LPG detector would kill the coach battery. So I wired in an on/off switch. Then the detector kept going off and so the switch remained OFF for several years. Likewise the detector in my current rig was killing the batteries when the rig was not used so I added an on/off switch. After a year or so the dectector became overly sensitive and the switch is in the off mode and has been in that mode for years. Problem solved.
