Magellan vs Rand Mc Nalley RV GPS devices
Has anyone used both or either and decided on one over the other and why? I know One has the Good Sam campgrounds and the other Woodalls. Both now have lifetime map upgrades however I am not sure as to the frequency of the campground upgrades. Both have the 7 inch version. So please comment as I will be buying one of them soon.
Thanks,

The Magellan was originally loaded with truck information when it came to describing your rig length for mapping. Instead of a motor home towing a car, you had to enter a tractor trailer pulling a trailer or tandem. They just corrected this.
The only difference I saw when checking the units, was the Magellan offered Bluetooth for your phone, Rand Mcnally didn't.

I have heard second hand that these brands are slower at recalculating than the Garmin units.

Rand 5510 recalculation is pretty much the same as my Garmin.

I have the rand mcnally 7710, I find it quite good. Easy to program, the recalculation is quite fast, a couple of seconds. I find it very easy to use and see. Warns of low bridges and the like. Gives campgrounds, restauants, walmarts, custom POI's.can use in car mode or RV mode at the touch of the screen. Have used it for 6 or 8 trips, am VERY satisfied with it. I have the unlimited map feature, Looking into possibly activating the real time traffic mode.

Does anyone know if either unit has an external antenna input and if so, what type of plug is required? I have a roof mounted antenna plugged into my Garmin 7200.

You might also consider a Teletype Worldnav 7400.

Posted on another thread;
OK...
Unless I find something different...I'm going with the Garmin dezl 560LMT.
Here are the 2 main reasons...
1. I own Garmins and like them.
2. Price:
The Garmin dezl 560LMT is complete at $370 on Amazon. The RM 7710 is $536. ($356 on Amazon, $90 for traffic traffic receiver and $90 for lifetime maps) That doesn't count if I need to by a glare shield for about $20.
3. Reviews. Both units get good and bad reviews...the RM seemed to have a higher %.
Granted, I think the RM unit has some great features but for $166 more, not sure it is worth that.
Now, I have some time for my "final answer". For the next couple months I don't expect to be navigationally challenged since I will be in a local CG with a couple trips to some other local area CGs I am familiar with. If something changes in price and/or features, I can still reconsider.

The 7710 comes with free lifetime maps, no need to purchase them.
$359.99 at Recreation Nation, includes lifetime maps.

OK...looking at your link SOMEONE is saying that...the RM site doesn't. I guess I just need to call them RM folks and double check this out. If, as the Rec Nation link says, it is lifetime map updates...that helps out a lot.

We have a Garmin 5000 and a Rand 7710 just finished a 8000 mile trip with both, I prefer the Rand hands down. Bought it at Camping World $339 less a $30 internet cupon so it netted out at $309 and it has life time upgrades. I considered the Magellan but decided I would rather have Woodalls campground info, it seems to have way more campgrounds to chose from than the Goodsam data base.

Call April too, she takes great care of anyone from the forum. When I replaced my Magnadyne M1-CD with the M1-LCD, she knocked $200.00 off the M1-LCD to bring it $40.00 under a competitor's price.
Several of us here bought our 7710 from her.
I can promise she will take care of you.
