To those of you that have a Magnum Energy power supply, I installed a 1200W Magnum Inverter/Converter not too long ago. If you look at the below photo, you will see that the display indicates that I am float charging at "13.4V + 0A." My question is regarding the amp reading. Occasionally I will notice that the "+0A" reading will show something around 40 amps, and slowly drop down to zero. What does this mean? I tried calling Magnum tech support, but the phone wait time was too long.

Thanks.

Craig

My guess is that your batteries are at 13.4 volts and not charging, therefore the 0 amps.

Bare with me as I'm still learning Magnum system myself. But I believe the amp read out your seeing is how many 12v amps are being put into your battery bank at that given time.

That is my understanding as well.

That is correct. A (+) reading means amps going INTO the battery, a (-) reading means amps OUT of the battery used by the inverter.

In Float mode you may see the amp reading (+) go up (i.e. +20A) in direct response to DC loads like lights, fans, pumps etc. being turned on. As a quick test you can turn on all the DC lights in the coach and the amp reading should go up. Turn off all the DC lights and the amp reading should go back to 0.

Craig,

That's the converter DC output. Mine is a 2000w AC/100a DC and will read just over 100a if the batteries are low in the morning and I have it set for 100a charge rate with the setup knob and 30a or 50a Shore input. Once your battery bank is fully charged it will drop to 0a. When I use my Honda EU 1000i to charge batteries I set the charge rate to 30a and the Shore input to 5a and feed the Honda into my Shore power socket with a 50a to 15a adapter. That picture is exactly the same as mine.

Finally got the second cooling unit installed in our 1200 and all is well.

Thanks for the info Jim. Glad the new cooling unit is working well.
