Mass Air Flow Sensor

I am again thankful for the great advice I always get on this web site. Have had weird problem lately with excessive gas smell from exhaust. Read this morning about cleaning mass air sensor as I just changed main air filter. Popped it out to take a look and was amazed. I will try to show photos here. Used MAF cleaner and it is better already. Thanks again to all.

Did you use a paper filter or one of the re-usable filters you coat with oil? It's pretty common with the foam/oil filters.

Mass Air Flow Sensor

While reading in this site I discovered Mass Air Sensor info. Decided to change air filter and look at MAS. Found air filter installed haphazardly and folded within box. Changed to new dry filter an cleaned out air box which was loaded with oil, gunk, and some kind of melted mesh. Went on to MAS for a look and found screen almost completely blocked with oil, dirt, dead bugs. Cleaned it as advised in forum and reinstalled. I took pictures, but am unable to load here. Started engine and it runs so much better. My point is, that without this forum I would never know. Last air filter change was by " A Dealer " As an old adage says, " Do you know what they call a doctor who graduated last in medical school ?? A Doctor, and he may be yours. P.S. I have a 2001 Georgetown with 7.4 liter Chevy Vortec
